July, August, & September 2012

I hate to start out on a sad note, but May, June, and July were especially bad in 2012 for swimmers around the piers.  When Debby came through and changed the sandbars, this change created so many gaps in the sandbars that rip currents developed with the water rushing back out through these gaps.  We lost count of how many swimmers had to be rescued, how many lives were lost.  Please make sure your loved ones and friends know how to identify and avoid rip currents, as well as how to save themselves if they become caught in a rip current.  Relay this information to them:

"If you are ever caught in a rip current you Will know it!! Try to remember what you are

about to read:

Don't try to swim against it. You're natural reaction is to swim to shore...against the strong

current. And that's the Worst possible thing to attempt, even for an Olympic swimmer.

Allow yourself to float. You'll float in the direction of the current...and Then swim With the

 current, and diagonally towards shore.

REMEMBER: Rip currents are most prevalent around structures such as piers. Do Not swim

within a few hundred yards of a pier or jetty!!"

This Coast Guard helicopter and boat searched until dark for a victim.  Two days later, they found him.

Rip currents aren't just around when it's stormy...

Now, back to fishing...  any ideas on what this may be...?!

OK, yes I know it's not cool when they steal our bait or even worse our catch... but the babies are soooo adorable!!

The strangest part of Summer of 2012 was the number of sailfish hooked up... like a few a week for a while.

OK, I am Officially caught up from 2012!!  This is where it got really crazy busy at work for me...in the fall.   I know I missed out on some great fall action, but as much as I love to fish I gotta be able to buy hooks.  And other cool stuff :)

See y'all SOON!  Spring is on the way!!!

JUNE 2012

Well...although I can't say that I recall the details...it looks like June 8th & 9th were GREAT days!   I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves...the first TWENTY are from those two days.

Sadly, searching for drowning victims became a regular occurrence in May & June.  We lost count of how many were pulled from the water, mostly from the east side of the pier.  Rip tides were present for Weeks.  Yellow flags/Red flags/Double-Red flags do mean the conditions are bad, but they don't change the flags because rip currents are present in certain areas.

Please be sure your loved ones know how to deal with a rip tide.  Teach them to let themselves float to see which way the current is taking them.  Go with the current, THEN swim with it, but diagonally to the shore.  Spread that information with all you know who swim at our beaches.  Please.

And then, Tropical Storm Debby came by...

...Leaving behind a whole new sandbar!

Wow...June was Awesome!

See y'all Soon!
