Most of May.

This time, the stormy skies did not produce fish.  Well, actually...the beginning of the month did bring the hardtails to PCB.  And I guess the hardtails either ate the cigar minnows or just ran them away...we haven't seen bait since the first of May.

On a stormy day, against 30 mph winds, I found a triple tail.  Well, OK...he found my nasty, old cig...while I was on a phone call, of course :)

Lee had a slow visit this time, without many kings caught...but he did land this HUGE redfish!

That is a spanish in this pelican's pouch.

Ummm...what a mess! :/

Is this a northern mackerel or an Atlantic bonita?

The reason fishermen don't swim:  8 foot hammerhead

I.D. anyone...?!  He lives in one of my tanks now, with my scorpionfish and pearly razorfish.

He's about 7-8 inches long, swims as well backwards as he does forward, and buries himself in the sand tail first...leaving just his open mouth exposed (which has some pretty creepy teeth!!).

If you can zoom in, you'll see HUNDREDS of ladyfish.

 Wait a minute...this mahi mahi looks a little different!  His face isn't flat!!?

Memorial Day.  They say it is an indicator of what kind of season to expect.  I think it's safe to say we're going to have a very busy summer!


There weren't many kings caught until the last week or so...they're showing up when I'm not there, of course.  Not many, but a few at least!

Last days of April

The end of April seemed to be the beginning of an awesome fishing 2013 season... cobia, pompano, and spanish were more abundant than in the last few years.  Surely the king mackerel season would also be Amazing...we thought.

Even after a slow day of catching...sometimes it's hard to leave at a reasonable time.  The water is just Mesmerizing at dusk.

The boats were like a continuous parade, celebrating the best cobia season the Panama City Beach waters had produced in Years.

 And through the end of April, it seemed our king run was on it's way.

Whether we catch fish or have fish-less days...we can always count on a Gorgeous sunset. 

Then came the full moon.  A Pink full moon {not Truly pink...just named pink since it's the first full moon of spring}.

But just as it started looking good...there came a cold snap that lasted for Weeks, perhaps changing the migration path of the kings. ...?

 

...and then it got Flat.


REALLY flat.
